Text Box: Viper - Robotica Semi-Final

The two robots face off on either side of a 16' platform On the signal to start the robots have one minute to immobilize their opponent or at least reach a favorable position, after one minute the rails drop and each robot must try and push the other over the edge. The winner is the robot that stays on the platform or at least leaves it last!

The filming of the TV show means that although the Panzer Vs Viper fight to the finish is in the last episode shown we were actually the first up on the platform at 4.00 am. on the second day of filming. After loading both bots onto their respective drawbridges the battle was ready to commence.

On the signal to start, Panzer accelerated rapidly towards Viper, but the low ground clearance which made the Maze so difficult pays off and Panzer gets good air for a 208 lb robot.

The remainder of the match is a simple pushing match with all twelve wheels scrabbling for grip on the painted surface. Again the low gearing which meant low speed for the Figure of Eight pays off and the extra torque means that Viper is able to hold Panzer against the rails for the whole minute. At the queue three of the four rails fall, but the rail that Panzer is pushed against does not fall, finally after another agonizing minute the crew pull the rail down and Panzer finally takes the plunge leaving Viper alone on the platform.

Viper wins the first round and advances to the finals to meet Juggerbot .
