Viper was drawn against "The Evil Beaver" in episode six of Robotica, this was actually the first show filmed on the ABC studios lot in Hollywood, California. Heat 12 Viper Vs the Evil Beaver consisted of three events The Figure of EightNeither Viper nor the Evil Beaver were particularly fast compared to some of the other robots in the show. Viper's maximum speed is just 4 mph but the six wheeled design and low gearing produces a phenomenal amount of traction. The tactic of giving the Beaver a little nudge on each lap paid off impeding the Beavers progress without slowing Viper. Viper wins 5 laps to 3. The MazeIn the maze two robots navigate through seven start at opposite ends of a track with a number of hazards, the winner is the first robot to make it through the waterfall to a platform in the middle of the track. The speed bumps proved to be a problem for a number of the robots in the competition and Viper with its 0.5" ground clearance was one of them. Viper got no further than the 1.5" speed bumps getting high-sided just before the finish ramp. Fortunately The Evil Beaver was unable to move the box. Viper wins the Maze. The GauntletThe gauntlet is a trial of strength and traction, each robot required to power its way through a sheet of glass, a wall of paint cans, bricks, concrete blocks and finally to push a 150 lb safe. Viper managed this with ease Viper wins the Gauntlet. The winner of each of the episode heats meet in the Semi Final Fight to the Finish. In a strange twist of fate Viper meets the awesome Panzer Mark 1 in the Fight to the Finish. Both robots are similar at 208 lbs and with six wheels. But Panzer is by far the faster robot |
